Meet my youngest. A few months ago, I did a cake smash photography session in Westfield (my first one) with Mister Handsome here, and he did not disappoint!
An Apprehensive Start
Sirius was a little apprehensive at first. He kept giving me looks, questioning whether or not he should, in fact, dig into this blue disc-shaped oddity that I placed right in front of him. He behaved just like I expected. I placed a few apple-flavored puff snacks into the back of the cake and opened it up for him so he could see something edible inside. That was all that was needed.
Once he realized the cake was something he could eat, his face lit up with joy. He tentatively touched the cake, and then, with a giggle, he dove in! His little hands grabbed chunks of the cake, smearing frosting all over his face and making the most adorable mess. It was a delightful scene that perfectly captured the essence of cake smash photography.
The Cake Smash Session Design & Theme
Sirius was a name chosen from Harry Potter (Sirius Black). We are both big HP fans; he is my husband’s favorite character. Sirius is also the name of the brightest star in the sky. The Dog Star. Alpha Canis Majoris. Here is a cool website to read more about it!
His bedroom is decorated in a Harry Potter/Ravenclaw/Star theme (with an awesome flying key mobile!), so I knew that doing a star theme would be perfect for him. The theme was meaningful and visually stunning, making the photos even more special.
Sweet Bites Bakery provided me with this adorable galaxy-themed smash cake. The bakery is on Facebook here. My daughter had her birthday party a few weeks ago, and I used the same bakery for her dinosaur cake and cupcakes.
The cake was not only beautiful but also delicious. The galaxy theme, with its deep blues and shimmering stars, fit perfectly with Sirius’s name and his bedroom decor. It was a wonderful backdrop for this cake smash photography session.
Capturing the Magic of Cake Smash Photography
Cake smash photography is all about capturing the joy and excitement of a little one experiencing cake for the first time. It’s a celebration of a significant milestone – turning one – filled with laughter, mess, and pure happiness. Sirius’s cake smash session was a perfect example of this. His initial hesitation, followed by his enthusiastic enjoyment of the cake, created a series of photos that tell a beautiful story.
The photos from this session show Sirius’s personality perfectly. His curiosity, his joy, and his love for the cake all come through in the images. These photos are more than just pictures; they are memories that we will cherish forever.
